STRIPD VISITS: MOUNT PLEASANT FARM B&B / SOMERSET

November 29, 2017

As the end of November is almost in sight, it’s time to wrap up a very fortunate year of unique stays across the U.K with a final tribute to a Somerset special.

After finding Daisy and Mount Pleasant Farm B&B on Instagram (@mountpleasantfarmbnb) a couple of months ago, I was set on paying her charming farmhouse (and mouth-watering English Breakfasts) a visit. Situated in the lush green countryside of Chapel Allerton, Mount Pleasant is a perfectly sized retreat that will leave you feeling fully restored in every aspect.

With some elements of the building dating back to the 16th century, this detached Somerset longhouse was a bare structure before Daisy got her hands on it. Flash forward to 2017, and Mount Pleasant has been transformed into the wondrous beauty it is now – thanks to Daisy’s ‘leap of faith’ intentions and artistic ideas. Her eye for detail and passion for creativity resonates through the whole building – from the restored furniture found at the local reclamation yard, to the homemade bakes and treats to impress guests – it’s clear that she’s gone beyond the extra mile to ensure a memorable stay.

Rooms

Mount Pleasant Farm B&B boasts four bespoke en-suite rooms: The Copper Pear, The Curlew and Hare, The Daisy Room and The Swallows. Each room not only demonstrates Daisy’s quirky style, but includes a king size bed, sumptuously soft linens, large cosy towels and oversized bathrobes. During our stay, we were placed in The Copper Pear – a delightfully spacious room with views across the front garden (inclusive of distant woolly residents from nearby).  With gorgeous copper interiors (Copper bathtub anyone?) and chic yet homely additions (board games, interior and design books and vibrant Orla Kiely furnishings), this (along with the other rooms on offer) will truly take your breath away. You’ll even find some little added luxuries freshly baked by Daisy waiting for you on arrival – the extra thoughtful touches that keep this destination imprinting on your mind.

Food

If you’re planning ahead for dinner, Daisy has some great local foodie recommendations to choose from – all within close proximity. If you don’t feel like venturing out, there’s also the option of snuggling up with a takeaway and a bottle of something delicious – not bad if you ask me.

The breakfast experience at Mount Pleasant deserves a special mention – as does the wonderful lady herself. Running the ship entirely by herself, Daisy makes her delicious traditional English breakfasts from scratch – incorporating locally sourced produce wherever possible. Served in the shabby-chic and beautifully bright dining room, you’ll be graced by the calming sounds of morning songbird as you enjoy your utterly, delicious food (that caters for all dietary requirements, by the way). With homemade conserves, marmalade, granola and bread, you’ll be spoilt for choice whilst being incredibly tempted – unashamedly, the way you should feel.

Lastly, for any vegetarians / vegans etc - don't worry, Daisy does a fantastic job to cater for you all (I secretly think she likes the challenge!).

So, if you’re already anticipating the sad slump that January brings (let’s face it, the good tv has ended and ALL the chocolate boxes are empty) – why not treat yourself to a visit to Somerset for some picturesque surroundings, beautiful home-cooked food and an even more beautiful host. Not only will you be looked after physically, but a mini-escape to the countryside always does wonders for the mind – a welcomed treat after the festive social activities and endless Prosecco waves.
