STRIPD VISITS: PASCHOE HOUSE / DEVON

March 10, 2018

What happens when you take a derelict Devonshire country house, add a touch of design vision and a whole lot of faith? A huge project that has seen the birth of the recently reformed Paschoe House – a luxury hotel based in the depth of the expansive Crediton countryside.

I first heard about Paschoe House last year when I’d seen a couple of fellow blogger enthusiasts talking on social media about their re-launch (and enviable Afternoon Tea). A few months later and their modesty has remained intact, with their respectable reputation growing naturally by the guests that have visited - spreading their positive experiences accordingly.

It was to my surprise (and delight) that the team had invited me down for a night’s stay to see the hotel in all its grandeur. Being a Devonshire girl myself, I’m slightly biased to the delights our county has to offer – which is why I’m especially excited to share this review.

Nestled away from all hustles and bustles, Paschoe House is a retreat for the mind, body and senses. With a prime Devon location, you’re within reach of some of the South West’s best attractions, as well as being within an hour’s drive of all the beaches.

Rooms

If you hadn’t already guessed, the heritage of this hotel is something that the owners have wanted to remain a prevalent feature. The re-design wasn’t intending to strip away the history in replacement of trendy exposed tiles and mod-cons – instead, the original features have been carefully enhanced with the help of local interior designers to give the suites a distinctively chic look and feel. Yes, there are TV’s and radios to make your stay comfortable, but with roll top copper baths, homemade sweet treats, a well-equipped book case and an even more equipped mini fridge – it’s doubtful you’ll even need them.

From the larger ‘Sensational’ to the cosier ‘Snug’ and ‘Spacious’ suites, each of the nine bedrooms offer individual style and charm – not to mention the stunning bathrooms, equipped with gorgeous Bamford toiletries and fluffy robes to give that extra pamper factor. I thoroughly enjoyed settling into a bubble bath whilst sipping on some other bubbles and reading the cleverly placed Harry Potter book that was propped-up, waiting for me on arrival.

Lastly, be sure to indulge in the breakfast in bed service - there’s truly nothing more indulgent than enjoying eggs hollandaise, sweet pastries and freshly brewed coffee from the comfort of the Richard Haworth bedlinen.

Food

Undoubtedly, one of the most memorable parts of the stay was the superb faire provided by Head Chef Samuel Brooks and his team. Quite truly exceeding all (already high) expectations with his fabulously creative menus, Paschoe House are onto a winner with this one.

The menu is formatted by; tasting menu (£75) with a paired wine flight (£35) or 3-course dinner (£60) – all served in the tastefully dressed restaurant for a truly indulgent dining experience. Dependent on you budget (and appetite), try a homemade cocktail in the hotels very own Library bar before eating, you won’t be disappointed.

Perhaps you’re just looking to pop in for food instead? There’s also a modestly priced 3 course lunch menu (£35) on offer too.

Lastly, if you’re looking for a special occasion treat - Paschoe House provide a truly luxurious Afternoon Tea menu, complete with homemade scones, sandwiches and sweet treats. Choose from a traditional or champagne package or opt for one of their tea-infused cocktails – served in a perfectly apt teapot, of course.

So, as far as Devonshire luxury hotels go - Paschoe House surely has outdone itself. Excelling in both culinary and hospitality departments, this is a wonderful escape that all wanderlusters and foodies alike will adore. Whether you're booking in for a weekend retreat, or celebrating a special occasion over a decadent Afternoon Tea - Paschoe House is your new go-to South West getaway.
